It is rewarding, even exhilarating, to be in charge when things are going well. There is a special, unmatched satisfaction in knowing that your efforts as a leader contributed to the success of an individual or a team. The challenge, some might even say the fun of being a leader fades quickly when people do not do what they are supposed to do when they are supposed to do it. A frown, a raised voice, a misplaced comment about a small mistake can quickly change an effective working relationship into an adversarial situation.
This presentation is about keeping the little things little. It is about how a supervisor can keep from turning a molehill into a mountain. It provides a template that participants can use to plan a two-way conversation about fixing a bump in the workplace road before it becomes a pothole. It shows participants how to follow a meeting agenda that focuses on performing a job correctly or complying with a corporate policy. It provides a process for using collaboration to end the meeting with a future focus that is based on trust and cooperation.
